Alexa von Tobel's Inspired Capital Unveils $330 Million Fund III

Founder of LearnVest and Forbes 30 Under 30 Alumnus Continues to Invest in Early-Stage Tech Companies

Leaving Harvard to launch a startup mid-recession was a huge risk, but it paid off for Alexa von Tobel. The founder of LearnVest announced this week a $330 million fund III coming from her venture capital firm, Inspired Capital.

Von Tobel, a 2012 Forbes 30 Under 30 Finance honoree, founded LearnVest in 2009. The company provided financial planning advice and tools to women. LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual in 2015 for $250 million.

After leaving LearnVest, von Tobel founded Inspired Capital in 2016. The firm invests in early-stage tech companies, with a focus on financial services, healthcare, and education. Inspired Capital has invested in companies such as Plaid, Credit Karma, and Flexport.

The $330 million fund III is Inspired Capital's largest fund to date. The firm plans to invest the fund in early-stage companies that are using technology to make a positive impact on the world.

"We're excited to announce the launch of our third fund," von Tobel said in a statement. "We believe that the future of the world is being built by entrepreneurs who are using technology to solve the world's biggest problems. We're committed to investing in these entrepreneurs and helping them build the companies that will shape the future."
