Liverpool Survives Roma Onslaught to Reach Final

In a stunning upset, AS Roma eliminated Barcelona from the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie. After losing 4-1 in the first leg at Camp Nou, Roma needed a miracle to advance. They got it in the form of a late goal from defender Kostas Manolas.

Roma had a strong start to the match and took the lead in the 6th minute through Edin Dzeko. Barcelona equalized in the 15th minute through Lionel Messi, but Roma continued to push forward. They were rewarded in the 57th minute when Daniele De Rossi scored to put them 2-1 up. With time running out, Manolas scored the decisive goal in the 82nd minute to send the Stadio Olimpico into raptures.

Liverpool also advanced to the final after a dramatic 7-6 aggregate victory over Roma. The first leg at Anfield had ended 5-2 in favor of Liverpool, but Roma came out firing in the second leg. They took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Liverpool fought back to win 2-1 on the night.

The two teams will now meet in the final in Kiev on May 26th. It will be a rematch of the 1984 European Cup final, which Liverpool won 1-0.
