Spain through to Euro 2024 last 16 as Italy chaos continues
Calafiori own goal seals Spain's Group B triumph
Luis Enrique's side show credentials amid Italy's defensive disarray
Spain booked their place in the Euro 2024 last 16 with a game to spare after beating Italy 1-0 on Saturday.
A Riccardo Calafiori own goal was enough to separate the two sides in Gelsenkirchen, with Spain now through as Group B winners.
Italy, meanwhile, are left to rue a number of missed chances and defensive errors, with their hopes of reaching the knockout stages now hanging in the balance.
Spain were the better side throughout, with Pedri and Gavi pulling the strings in midfield and Ansu Fati a constant threat up front.
Italy had their chances, with Federico Chiesa and Ciro Immobile both going close, but they were unable to find a way past a resolute Spain defence.
The win means Spain are now through to the last 16, where they will face the runners-up from Group A.
Italy, meanwhile, must now beat Norway in their final group game to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages.
