The 2008 British Grand Prix, officially known as the 2008 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix, was a Formula One motor race held on 6 July 2008 at Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain.

The race was won by Lewis Hamilton for the McLaren team, marking his first home victory in Formula One. It was also McLaren's first victory of the 2008 season.

The race was held in wet and slippery conditions, with several drivers crashing out or spinning off the track. The safety car was deployed twice during the race, once after a crash involving David Coulthard and Jarno Trulli, and again after a crash involving Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton took the lead of the race on lap 38, when he passed Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari. He held on to the lead for the remainder of the race, despite a late challenge from Felipe Massa's Ferrari.

The victory was a significant moment in Hamilton's career, as it marked his first win in front of his home crowd. It also helped him to close the gap in the drivers' championship standings, and he went on to win the championship that year.
